Bonding Over Sports: RamatUtsav

From Legacy to Living Movement

When Ayan Patel first stepped into Tribhuvan Vidhyalay in Lanva, North Gujarat, he was retracing the steps of his great-grandfather, Shaheedvir Tribhuvandas Patel, a freedom fighter and champion of farmers’ rights, the school was named after him.

In July 2023, Ayan returned not just as a visitor, but as an international tennis player determined to give back. His dream was simple yet powerful:
to bring joy, unity, and pride to the village through sports.

A Sports Day that Sparked a Movement

Ayan organized a full-fledged Sports Day at Tribhuvan Vidhyalay—one that had the entire village buzzing. With over 200 students participating, the playground was alive with barefoot sprints, excited cheers, and powerful team chants. The events included:

🏃‍♀️ 100-meter race

🔁 Relay race

🏐 Volleyball

💪 Kabaddi

🔄 Kho-Kho

What started as a single-day event quickly became a platform for long-term engagement.

Together with the school principal, he began transforming RamatUtsav into a sustained platform for sports and wellness:

  • Levelled and upgraded the school ground

  • Donated kho-kho poles and sports equipment

  •  Introduced structured routines:

    • Mobility drills for flexibility

    • Strength and agility exercises for performance

    • Post-sport stretching for recovery

  • Structured sports curriculum

  • Conducted interactive workshops on the importance of exercise and nutrition, helping students understand how food, fitness, and mindset fuel performance

  • Linked students with district, state, and national competitions

More Than Games: An Ongoing Commitment

Seeing the students’ excitement, Ayan began returning to the school regularly—not just to cheer them on, but to teach them discipline, nutrition, fitness, and mental strength, all drawn from his training as an international tennis player.

“Thanks to this new awareness, our students have begun winning prizes at inter-school, district and state competitions. For the first time, one of our girls has qualified for state-level throw put and many of our students have performed so well in Kabbadi in Khel Mahakumbh at national level."

- Samir Patel, School Principal
