Module 7: Labor Reduction Through Ergonomic Weeding Tool

Tool Introduced:
Long-handled ergonomic weeder (locally fabricated, lightweight, requires no bending)

Problem Solved:

Farmers—especially women and elderly workers—traditionally perform weeding while squatting or bending for several hours a day. This causes:

  • Severe back and knee strain

  • High fatigue levels

  • Reduced ability to perform other tasks after weeding

Outcome After Tool Adoption:

  •  70% reduction in physical strain during weeding tasks

  • Time spent on manual weeding dropped from 4 hours/day to 1hours/day

Farmers reported being able to complete additional farm work the same day, improving overall productivity

"Earlier, I had to sit for 3–4 hours to remove weeds. Now with the stand-up weeder, I finish the work in one-fourth time and don’t feel pain in the evening."
